First Morning in Colaba

Early morning 1 6 2011
Well, I wasn’t kidding about it being noisier in the morning.  I awoke to what sounded like someone pounding a metal trash can in front of the hotel.  Then someone else seemed to have joined in.  Suddenly, it became clear, as even more people joined in that they were not trashcans being pounded, but drums.  I got out of bed, went to the doors that open onto our little balcony and looked down.  Onn the street below our window was a circle of men and women dancing to the drums.  Children playing on the street ran over and started wiggling and jumping around with them.  For 45 minutes the drumming continued as the dancers ever so slowly made their way down the street.  Wow, those drummers had impressive arm strength and stamina!   We found out later what it was all about.
